What does the future hold for solar energy? Will the world take to a cleaner energy solution? And when is it all going to happen??
These are the types of questions global energy leaders are thinking about. And the proof is in the pudding! If the federal Climate Commission’s predictions report was baked into a pudding, that is.
“Over the last five years substantial momentum has been created, driven by falling production costs and escalating investment and policy commitments from major players.” – Climate Commission
With 2.6 million Australians using solar energy to power their homes and over a million solar PV systems installed within half a decade, Australia is certainly embracing solar energy. But let’s look across the sea.
China set a one-year record in 2012 by investing US$31.2 billion dollars in solar energy. That whopping amount doubled China’s solar capacity and they’re intending to triple it within only two years.
Over in Europe, Germany has more installed solar capacity than any other country due to a significant program of policy support. Despite receiving less sunlight than Victoria.
Total global installed solar PV capacity grew by 42% in 2012, four times its level in 2009. And it doesn’t look like slowing down any time soon.
