The Great Australian Energy Debate.

With the 2013 Australian federal election less then 2 weeks away, the Coalition have come out swinging against the Government’s most recent Clean Energy Solution.

The Australian Energy Market Operator’s 100 per cent renewables study states that by the year 2030, renewable energy including solar, wind and hydro power could supply electricity equal to fossil fuels.

The report and findings can be read here.

Despite the findings, Labor and Liberal still don’t see eye to eye.

”The greatest threat to renewable energy in Australia is Tony Abbott, who would cut key programs like the Clean Energy Finance Corporation, emissions trading scheme and reduce or scrap the Renewable Energy Target,” – Mark Butler; Climate Change Minister.

Butler also stated that the Government will be considering the advice from the Climate Change Authority in the 2016 review but thinks it would be impulsive to contemplate targets outside 2020.

But it isn’t only the two major parties that are up in arms. Greens leader Christine Milne put in her 2 cents saying ”It puts a wrecking ball through claims by the Coalition and Labor that we can’t go a lot harder and set a 90 per cent target by 2030.”
