The use of LED lights has significantly grown over the last few years. Here are 5 reasons why you should switch to LED lights:

  • LEDs use less power

It is now proven that LED lights increase energy efficiency by approx. 80%. Unlike other bulbs which escape 90% of the energy as heat, LED bulbs use most of their energy to create light. So, for the same lighting output, the wattage of LED bulbs is lower than incandescent or halogen bulbs. For example, a 10W LED has the same lighting output has a 50W downlight.

  • LEDs reduce the carbon footprint

Using less energy means less greenhouse emission! A study shows that in 2017, the LEDs lights reduce the carbon emission by 570 million tons. Read the release here.

  • LEDs are cost effective

Your electricity bills are calculated according to your usage, measured in kilowatt per hour. This usage is then multiplied by a rate, usually cents per kWh. Knowing that LEDs bulbs are 80% more efficient, it is easy to understand how LED lights can save you a lot.

Let’s compare the costs of a 50W downlight with a 10W LED. Imagine your run both lights for 8 hours every day with an electricity rate of $0.3 per kWh. You have the following:

Using a 10W LED light instead of a 50W downlight will save you $35 per year. If this amount seems insignificant, don’t forget that it represents the savings for only one bulb replaced.

  • LEDs last longer

LEDs last longer than standard bulbs. Some LEDs lifespan are about 50,000 hours! A significant difference if we compare to standard bulbs with an average lifetime of 9,000 hours. LEDs last at least 10 years while other bulbs must be changed every year for residential use or every few months in the case of commercial or industrial usage.

  •  LEDs output are as good as other bulbs

LEDs have the reputation to be very slow to light up, unlike incandescent bulbs. This is not true anymore: new technologies have considerably changed and LED bulbs light instantly, as quick as incandescent bulbs.

LEDs also come in a wide range of colours. The colour temperature is measured in K ratings, K stands for Kelvin. It ranges from 2.7000 to 6.500 Kelvin. LEDs bulbs up to 3500 produce a warm, yellow light. From 3200 to 4500 the light is whiter. Over 4500 it produces a clear white light great for garages, retails, commercial and industrial usages.

The LED lighting you choose depends on your preferences and you can easily find the same shade as your incandescent or halogen bulbs.
