Apple has entered into an agreement to use 100% renewable energy for all of its facilities and offices in Singapore.
This month, Apple has announced that it has entered a deal to power all of its Singapore operations with 100% renewable energy. This is their latest effort in a series of projects from the multinational company to turn its operations green and environmentally friendly.
Lisa Jackson, Apple’s vice president of Environment, Policy and Social Initiatives, said in a recent interview that it would allow the people of Singapore ‘to get access to energy while we meet our own renewable energy goals’.
Apple also announced that it will open its first store in Singapore, which will be powered by the program.
The rooftop solar panels will be installed on both public-owned buildings and also Apple’s own facilities. According to Apple, the panels will generate 50 MW of solar energy, enough energy to power the equivalent of 9,000 homes. According to Miss Jackson, Singapore’s development board were quick to support this amazing project because it will also provide electricity for public-owned housing.
The deal will make Apple the first company in Singapore to run operations on completely clean and renewable energy. But there’s still a long way to go before Apple are using 100% clean energy for all of their operations and facilities worldwide.
