The inverter is the brain of your solar power system. Standard inverter can only convert the DC electricity generated by solar panels into AC electricity (usable electricity).
A hybrid inverter can however simultaneously manage inputs from both solar panels and a battery bank. It can have the battery connected to it, can charge batteries with either solar panels or the electricity from the grid depending on which is more economical.
Whether you need a hybrid inverter, or the classic inverter depends on your desire to add batteries to your solar power system.
You can add batteries to your classic inverter, but you would need to add a charge controller before being able to add batteries.
Hybrid inverters are more expensive as they offer more functionality and are an all-in-one solution i.e., classic grid inverter + a charge controller built into one.
One of our product partners, Solar Edge has just released a hybrid inverter which also includes energy management which further benefits of an all-in-one solution.
