Significant demand of Solar in SA after blackout

blackout

There as been a huge demand for Solar as solar system installations in South Australia has increased significantly after an unexpected incident on February 8 2017. 90,000 properties suddenly blacked out and more than 6000 megawatts of electricity generation capacity was lost, including a large Adelaide Festival, all due a voltage transformer exploding and spot fires across EletraNet’s switch yard.

This incident caused three of the power stations to shut down. Despite their stored energy in case of a black out, there was not enough energy for the state. The blackout affected mostly regional and suburban areas, where the income is below the average.

After this incident, South Australia will build the largest battery storage in all Australia.

According to Australian’s Clean Energy Regulator, there are over 205,000 small solar panel systems installed in South Australia, which is one of the largest installation rates per capita.

‘’With solar and storage becoming cheaper and more affordable every day, it’s no surprise that ordinary South Australians have looked to clean energy’’ Solar Citizen SA Campaigner Dan Spencer said. Households are more interested in solar panels systems, as technology is reducing prices and they also gain some money feeding electricity into the grid.

There is an open investigation in regards the incident.
